Game #5: Madison Battles Back to 5-3 Victory Over Loudoun Valley Vikings

After a long holiday break the Warhawks were caught off guard in the first period by a talented Loudoun Valley defense. With precision cannon shots from near the blue line, Viking defensemen blasted in 3 unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes of play. The Warhawks quickly regrouped, with focus placed on denying the Vikings any clear shots from the points. Constant man to man pressure on the Viking defense shutdown their scoring opportunities while Warhawks defensive pairs Johna Ezzard / Noah Thompson and Richard Zhang / Kamron Sarmadi effectively cleared the zone and drove the puck into Viking territory.

Junior Mike Gros finished waking the Warhwaks from their holiday slumber by deking around the Viking defense and outwitting the Viking goalie, netting an unassisted goal. Following Mike's goal the Warhawks shifted into high gear. During a series of intense battles in front of the Viking net, the Warhawks succeeded in tying the score - goals coming from juniors Kamron Sarmadi and Alex Tudan, assisted by freshman Sammy Thompson and sophomore Jason Calem. A tired Viking bench was unable to slow the Warhawk momentum. A the end of the second period, another goal from Kamron Sarmadi, assisted by freshman Luke Pohlman put the Warhawks in the lead. An unassisted wrap-around goal from Jason Calem caught the Viking goalie off guard and sealed a well earned Warhawk victory. The Warhawks next game is on Fri 1/8 at 9:40 pm against Stonebridge in Reston.
