The Warhawk varsity beat McLean 4-2 in a very close game on Fri 1/19. Although the Warhawks got off to a lead in the first with a goal from sophomore Keegan Sweeney, assisted by senior Jay Stephens. That lead evaporated with two unanswered goals from the Highlanders. The Warhawks seem to always play their best when coming from behind and this game was no exception. Down 1-2 at the end of the second, the Warhawks rallied in the third, pelting the McLean goalie with a barrage of shots. Sophomore Will Albrittain tied up the score 2-2 by knocking the puck in right in front of the net as he was being pushed over by a Highlander defenseman. He was assisted by senior Jay Stephens and sophomore Zach Helfant. The Warhawks moved into the lead with senior Jay Stephens' 1-timer rocket, assisted by junior Luke Pohlman's pass from behind the net. Senior captain Jason Calem capped off the victory by rushing between two McLean defenders for an empty net goal. The Warhawk varsity doesn't play again until Sun 2/4 @ 8:20 pm in Ashburn (unfortunately right during the super-bowl)
