The Warhawks battled to a 4-4 tie against the Fauquier Bulldogs in their season opener Fri 11/7. Despite a short bench and many first time freshman players, the Warhawks came out fast, jumping to a 2-0 lead in the first period. They were led off by an unassisted goal from sophomore Kamron Sarmadi. Freshman Jason Calem scored the 2nd goal, his first as a member of the Warhawks, with a well executed tip-in. In the second period, the Warhawks slowed a little and let the Bulldogs even up the score 2-2. The Warhawks managed to take the lead again at the end of the 2nd with a goal from senior Dylan Cass assisted by freshmen Justin Shayne and Jason Calem. In the third, both teams stepped up the pace. The Bulldogs tied it up again less than two minutes into the period and then surged into the lead 4-3 with just 5:11 remaining. Despite heavy pressure and repeated shots, the Bulldogs were denied another goal with a series of impressive saves from goalie Dean Kern. The Warhawks rallied at the end and Senior Dylan Cass, assisted again by freshman Jason Calem, drove through multiple Bulldog defenders to put in the tie goal. This was a promising start to the season for the young but determined Warhawk squad. For more info view game stats and photos.
