Madison/McLean JV Hockey took on Battlefield High School Friday night at the Haymarket Iceplex, Madison/McLean’s first game of the season. Battlefield got off to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 8 minutes, registering 10 shots in the first period. Madison/McLean goalie Bryce Swaney kept the team in it, turning away 28 of 31 shots throughout the game. Madison/McLean used their speed advantage in the second period, and Alex Jolly scored on a laser beam from the left faceoff circle that sent the Battlefield goalie’s water bottle flying. EJ Nelson had the assist. Down 3-1 in the third, a body checking penalty sent Madison/McLean to the power play with just over 2 minutes remaining. The puck went deep in the Battlefield zone, and goalie Bryce Swaney was pulled for the extra attacker, but it came back the other way and a defensive zone turnover led to an empty-net goal to seal the 4-1 win for Battlefield.
Madison/McLean showed determination, teamwork, and a no-quit style of play that should carry momentum into the next game against Paul VI on Friday, November 15 at 9:40pm at Skatequest of Reston.
