Shorthanded Highhawk JV Battles to 1-3 Loss Against Bobcats

A combined McLean/Madison JV came up short 1-3 against Battlefield but it was not without an extremely hard fought battle. The Highlander/Warhawks squad, or "Highhawks" started the game with just 8 skaters and freshman Ian McCormack in net. Due to a delayed game jersey order they were outfitted with a mis-matched set of red, green, blue and black jerseys. The small, rag-tag band of Highhawks faced off against a Bobcat squad twice their number. Within seconds of the first puck drop the intimidating Bobcats charged in and netted their first goal. But the Highhawks did not back down from the challenge. In the middle of the 1st, freshman Zach Helfant charged down the boards into Bobcat territory, swooped into the slot and blasted in a goal to tie up the score. An exhausted Highhawk squad kept up the battle all the way to the end, led by goalie Ian McCormack who blocked an amazing 57 out of 60 shots on net. At one point near the end of the 2nd, the Bobcat squad, frustrated by their inability to run-up the score, took multiple misconduct penalties including a charging, a boarding and even a bench penalty. The Highhawks were not phased and denied the Bobcats any goals in the 3rd. The Highhawks left the ice exhausted but smiling. This loss felt almost like a victory.
