Game #4: Warhawks Rally Late to Beat Westfield 5-3
The Warhawks had to rely on the steady play of their defense, consisting of junior Justin Roberts, sophomore Noah Thompson, freshwoman Johna Ezzard and freshman Richard Zhang; and outstanding goaltending from sophomore keeper Dean Kern to keep the Warhawks in the game early. Westfield came to play and put the pressure on early and often. By the end of the second period, the Warhawks were outshot (24-14) and outscored (3-1). Fortunately, the Warhawks got some wind under their wings when sophomore Theo Lenz lit the lamp just 25 seconds into the third period. Senior Dylan Cass followed that up with his second goal of the evening, a highlight reel goal 2 minutes and 36 seconds later. Off a nice turnover caused by sophomore Mike Gros, Dylan did the rest beating three different Westfield defenders one-on-one before roofing a backhand shot past the bewildered Westfield goalie. With the momentum fully on Madison’s side, the Warhawks rally continued. Theo Lenz added another goal that put the Warhawks ahead and then sophomore Alex Tudan (our backup goalie playing out as a forward) scored his first NVSHL goal to seal the deal. The win over Westfield leaves the Warhawks with a winning record (2-1-1), but a formidable foe lurks as Madison will face the combined team from Centreville/Fairfax on Friday, Dec 5th at 7:55 pm at the SkateQuest Reston rink.
